Ford reveals 2018 Mustang at NAIAS 2017
The Ford Mustang has been on the market since 2015, but now the company has already present a 2018 Ford Mustang refresh update of the successful sports car at the car show NAIAS (8 to 22 January 2017) in Detroit. The most important innovations: There will be a 10-speed automatic transmission, three striking new colors and ten new wheel designs.2018 Ford Mustang |
5-liter-V8 with more power
The most powerful unit with which the Mustang can be ordered, the 5-liter V8 engine, is equipped with a new "Dual Fuel" injection system and a higher compression ratio (12: 1 instead of 11: 1). This is to increase the speed limit, bring more power and save fuel. At low engine speeds, Ford has more torque. From the outside is recognizable this motorization at a quadruple tailpipe. However, Ford still retains the details of the improved technical data.2.3-liter turbo with more torque
The 3.7-liter V6 as the base engine is being taken out of the program; in Europe, it was known not to be offered. For this, the 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder, which we have enjoyed so wonderfully in our test, will get more torque thanks to a time-limited overboost function and thus accelerate better. Here, too, Ford denies us a closer look at the exact data.New 10-speed automatic transmission
For both engines, a ten-speed automatic transmission will be offered from the new model year. Ford promises faster gear shifting and better acceleration than with the previous six-speed automatic - also here without mentioning details. In addition, the manual six-speed gearbox has been reworked so that the clutch is easier to operate. In addition, the transmission will be able to withstand more torque in the future.Electronic damper "MagneRide"
The "Performance Package" with which the Ford Mustang can be fitted, includes the "MagneRide" damper control system, which is already available for the top model GT350 Shelby. This promises Ford more driving comfort with improved road conditions. A new underfloor trim not only improves driving dynamics, but also fuel consumption, according to Ford.2018 Mustang Design changes
Ford has also adopted the design, if only carefully: the front edge of the bonnet is now two centimeters lower than before and the radiator grille has been reworked. There are ventilation slots in the hood and new taillights in C-shape. The LED technology now arrives at the front and rear of the luminaires. The rear also await with a new bumper and optionally a spoiler is now available. Three new, eye-catching colors are available: "Kona Blue", "Orange Fury" (our pictures) and Royal Crimson (a dark violet).2018 Ford Mustang interior
The use of new materials in the interior, for example for the seats, and a center console with hand-sewn leather, will give the Mustang a touch of premium. In addition, a full-digital instrument display will be available as an option. It measures 12 inches and displays classic round instruments in one of three different views. Depending on the way of driving, the color worlds also change. The driver can customize this, including his chassis and steering preferences.Modern assistance systems
A heated steering wheel can be found in the interior for the first time at the Mustang. Modern assistance and safety systems such as collision protection with pedestrian detection, a ramp warning system, a lane guard and a fatigue warning system are among the new equipment options of the Mustang.2018 Ford Mustang Release date in Fall 2017 and Price
In the USA, the new Mustang will be launched as a 2018 model in Fall 2017. According to the German Ford press office, the 2018 Ford Mustang is likely to reach Europe only in early 2018. Final prices will be announced soon.2018 Ford Mustang Photo Gallery
