2016 Honda Civic 2.0 VTEC-Turbo Type R GT
The additional name "Type R" brings the heart of Honda fans on a regular basis, but the abbreviation always stands for the sportiest versions of a series. Recently, however, the fans had to accept a long thirst, the last Civic Type R 2010. The long wait has paid off, however, and the new Civic Type R is as sporty as never before. Even visually you can see the fastest Civic of all time at first sight. The bulky front part, the wider wheel arches, a very conspicuous diffuser at the rear and the oversized large rear wing characterize the compact riot-maker.But the Civic Type R can not only look a lot, it is also a technical treat that can be as sporty as it looks. Honda has changed a lot for the Civic Type R and developed, for example, a newly developed, adaptive four-point damper system specifically for the powerful compact car. The rear wheel suspension and the steering system have also been adapted, the whole is rounded off by special brakes and tires.
The heart of the sporty Civic is a 2.0 liter VTEC turbocharged engine, which has a power output of 310 hp. Its maximum torque of 400 Nm provides the engine between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm, the shift is via a manual 6-speed gearbox. With the tuning of the transmission, the technicians have made a huge balancing act. The gears are on the one hand very short translated, so that the highest gear is already at 55 km / h and one is very economical on the road. On the other hand, the second gear can also be loosely loosened up to 100 km / h if you want to enjoy the absolute sportiness of the Type R.
To the left of the faucets is the + R button, which gives the Civic even more sportiness. All systems are then trimmed to optimal performance, and the whole thing is also visually indicated by the change of the instrument lighting from white to red. It is really remarkable that the engine can actually mobilize even more power, because even in the normal mode, the Civic Type R is extremely toxic, as far as the performance is concerned.
In the + R mode, however, you can really feel how the fast compact is longing to be driven over a race track to show its full potential. In just 5.7 seconds you sprint from the stand from 0 to 100 km / h, whereby it is really remarkable how well the Civic brings the force to the road. Normally, such high forces are dragged in a car with a front drive on the steering wheel. With the Civic Type R, the electronics do everything they can to avoid this.
The sound is also clearly sharpened when you switch to the + R mode. The Civic Type R also shows that it is designed for the race track and that you have largely avoided unnecessary sound insulation in order to further optimize the weight. Especially in the case of highway speed, the interior is already much louder. If you reach the top speed of 270 km / h, then should probably already put on an ear protection.
Very successful is also the steering, which is extremely direct and makes the sporty compact car very handy. The Civic Type R also has a perfect road situation and can hardly be put out of the way in extreme situations. Here, the technicians have done a lot of work and showed what is possible despite front-wheel drive.
The Civic Type R does not have to hide from the competition. Who normally drives the car in everyday life, the 7.3 liter literally promised by the factory. We have rather devoted ourselves to the sporting side of the Civic Type R and have come to still quite acceptable 10 liters.
Despite all the sportiness, the Civic Type R can also be used as a normal part of everyday life, enjoying a space as rare in this class. With the very sporty lines, you would not expect much space, but here the Civic teaches us a better one. The inner space, also trimmed entirely for sportiness, also offers plenty of space in the rear, and the trunk volume is located with 477 liters of capacity far above the competition.
In addition to the good space offer, the sports seats are particularly impressive, the extreme design of which offers perfect support in every situation. It is not easy to enter and exit, however, as the strong shaping of the side walls must be overcome for the first time. Compared to the other Honda Civic versions, the R can also feature a velor cover on the middle armrest and in the doors as well as many red trim elements.
Those who opt for the Honda Civic Type R in the GT version should have more than £29,995, but the price includes a very generous equipment. The Honda CONNECT navigation system with a 7 "touchscreen, a high-power audio system, a navigation system with a 7" touchscreen, a high-performance audio system, System with 8 loudspeakers and 320 watts, a keyless system and much more on board.
